Grolsch Highline Expedicion: Part VI.
Las Vegas

This morning, to my surprise, I awoke to the sound of a rooster crowing and for a brief moment I thought I was back at home.
I think every person lucky enough to be hosted by Maria and Rick will share a similar experience. The delicious morning smell of brewing coffee, not to be mistaken from the instantcoffee which has been the common morning delicacy, this was the real thing.
Smiles are shared all around as we admire the good company and spectacular views from the vantage point of a beautiful home filled with good spirits.

Before going any further we need to go back to the beginning...
Due to the snow and cold weather we've decided to travel south - currently to Maria and Rick's house in the outskirts of L.A. This amazing duo are responsible for creating the first ever slackline company, Slackline Brothers Inc., ten years ago.

The night before arriving here, however, we spent some time in Las Vegas setting up tricklines along the main street, a.k.a. "The Strip".
We crashed for the night at the Hooters Hotel and Casino where we managed to score a big room for $30 between six people, always true to the dirtbag way.
After about eight hours of driving, checking into a hotel room and getting urban basecamp set up, Korny, Jordan, Brian and me went out for the night to scout out potential slackline spots. Equipped with beers in hand (Las Vegas being the only city in the U.S. where you can drink legally in the street) we first set up a short line in front of the infamous Bellagio fountain and outside a Harley Davidson Cafe.
In the end we didn't earn much money but we had a truly unique experience.
Among the mosaic of our Vegas encounters not only did we set up tricklines along "The Strip," we witnessed many crazy reactions from intoxicated onlookers, had a personal rapper/stripshow promoter hype up our show, amongst many other sights and experiences...

The next day we decided to try to once again make some money performing along The Strip.
Unfortunately this time we were booted from all places we attempted to set up lines within a short time. Since the man was coming down on us hard and the heat of the day was gone we were then motivated to move onto L.A. to visit our new hosts.
After five more hours of driving we showed up at the base of the steepest street in L.A. where Maria and Rick live near the top.
Ultimately finding the house was very easy, considering the permanent slackline that was set up in front of their wonderful home. Upon being let in Rick greeted us with great hospitality and at once we felt like we were part of the family that makes up this special slackline community.

The tentative plan floating around is that we will spend about a week here taking care of certain errands and getting ready for our next journey to Joshua Tree. After browsing through the ample collection of guidebooks here in the house I have come across the J Tree bouldering guide and the psyche is very high.
The images and topos certainly won't do justice to the beauty of this special place but for now it will stoke the fire of our imaginations...
